“Art of nature” A Mutual Installation by BonniBonne  and Dry Studios

2/12/2021

You might remember my visits to DRY Studios during Stockholm Design Week a while back? Founded by art directors Jenny Kastel Tavassoli and Johan Fredlund, their work is focused on interiors, furniture, graphic prints and smaller details. As this week marks a very different week of design over in Stockholm, I thought I’d revisit the studio virtually. And the photos are so atmospheric. I only wish I could touch the pieces myself.

I sometimes feel that the word ‘artisanal’ is used a little too freely when it comes to design but in this case, it truly applies.

The ‘Art of Nature’ collection is a collaborative exchange between DRY STUDIOS and BonniBonne, a studio based in Norrland. Away from the bustle of the city, Norrland brings a very different perspective to its founders Emilie Ivarsson and Shalony van Stralendorff. Surrounded by nature, BonniBonne seeks to create everyday objects that are both poetic and timeless using traditional craftsmanship known to the area.

The first thing you’ll notice is the strong Japanese aesthetic that connects both studios.

Joining DRY’s existing collection of wooden Geta boards, inspired by the Japanese platform shoe, is a new ridged version. Also joining the collection is a new Master Board and incense holder made in walnut and treated with linseed oil or an iron/vinegar bath which turns the wood a black/blue.

I hope you’ll watch this video, as it’s so beautiful. I really didn’t want it to end.

BonniBonne’s launched their first furniture collection Outline. The collection was designed in collaboration with Japanese architect Fumihito Ohashi. It carries simplistic, clean lines with a focus on the quality of the wood. Also featured are smaller ceramics and wooden items from their ‘Turned’ collection.

“It’s a collaboration that evolved through our common aesthetics and passion for materials and forms. Our products share the same philosophy and the installation was really joyful to curate, especially when we realized how well it all came together. ” – Jenny Kastel Tavassoli

I really love the Japanordic appeal of the new series of frames by DRY Studios. Their made from black oiled walnut. Some are combined with Japanese paper as well as cane. Beautiful as a small art installation, don’t you think? I can’t wait to visit again. Hopefully during the next Stockholm Design Week.
