Scandinavian Christmas

Scandinavian Christmas traditions are important to me having grown up with a real Christmas tree, it’s something I would never change.

Since the 1980s Georg Jensen have been creating Christmas Collectibles every year. These are unique Scandinavian Christmas ornaments and once they’re sold out, they don’t get re-produced. I love the concept and some loyal customers have been collecting since day one.

This year the Collectibles collection was designed by Sanne Lund Traberg. The design was inspired by Art Deco motifs to create abstract and graphic shapes that are truly timeless. They come in nice boxes, so you can keep them safe and bring them out year after year. I like Christmas traditions and I still remember some of the decorations my grandparents would decorate their trees with every year. In fact, I’ve got a couple of them and bring them out every year, which for me is quite special.

To me, the Georg Jensen Collectibles are more attractive than buying new decorations all the time. Because they’re so minimal and contemporary, they’ll stay current for years to come. They would also make a great Christmas gift.

When it comes to Christmas, I love decorating with nature and keep things pretty simple. I’ve hung a few stars in threads in my mixed foliage bouquet. I think they look gorgeous. I don’t normally mix gold and silver, but at Christmas time I actually really like it.

The Gold Christmas decorations are made from 18 Kt. Gold Plated Brass and the Silver decorations are Palladium Plated Brass. I can’t wait to hang some on our Christmas tree, I’m sure the decorations will reflect the fairy lights beautifully. The decorations are made in Georg Jensen’s own Danish workshops, and I can assure you the quality and craftsmanship is flawless. If you want a little peak into the silversmith, check it out here. It’s really inspiring to see behind the scenes.

Christmas Table Setting

For my table setting, I’ve got a lovely branch of pine and a few of the 2019 Christmas Ball Decorations.  As napkin rings, I’ve used the 2019 Christmas Star Ornaments. They could also be hung on the tree or in the window as a nice display.

The candle holders are from the Tunes collection. They can be used all year round.  The white porcelain plates are from the COBRA collection designed by Constantin Wortmann.

It’s minimal, but it’s the way I like it. A few beautiful decorations with some foliage and greenery, is for me a perfect Scandinavian Christmas.

As a part of the Christmas Collectibles, there are cute candle holders for tea lights, perfect for cosy evenings.

The Georg Jensen Christmas Advent candleholders designed by Danish-born Maria Berntsen are as much part of many people’s seasonal traditions as the tree itself. The harmonious curves of the holders are at once contemporary and classic.

The candleholder is made from sterling steel, plated with 18 carat gold to give a warm Christmassy aura when lit with candles. Advent is a nice tradition and next week we’ll be lighting the first candle. Click to see more Georg Jensen candle holders here.
